I was just about to ask if it was Italy! The males here can be a bit um... basic. I wore a short skirt for my recent birthday as a bit of a joke (can't say how old I am or I'd have to kill you Smile ). Talk about Pavlovian responses....

On the language front I have problems with an older Italian student but with him it's listening and his need to understand every word. In spite of context, graded language etc etc he finds it very difficult to understand beyond the known. He's not averse to speaking as he can select from his own vocabulary, but I'm finding it very difficult to extend those limits. Time is a problem too. Reading this thread has put me in mind to give him some homework from the internet. I've given him ideas but perhaps if I focus on very small digestible elements he could find the time between his meetings with incompetent, politically controlled managers and the trade unions.

One reason I use L1 after the end of a lesson is that you learn so much local knowledge when students relax.Smile
