I have Bancomer account which I got through the university (nomina). It's been good so far - as long as I don't have to go anywhere near the bank itself though Bancomers usually have a TV so you can watch soaps while you wait. The best and quickest service I've seen by a long way is in Banorte.

Whether sitting in chairs or standing in line, waiting time varies a lot. You don't want to go to the bank at quincena or just before a long weekend, for instance If you time it right and avoid the days and times of day when everyone is at the bank, you hardly have to wait at all, no matter which bank it is.

Last September I went to my Banamex bank and informed them of my change of address. I gave the account teller all the necessary information complete with a comprabante from my landlady and additional information. In january my new recruiter needed for me to set up an additional account with Banamex so he could made a direct deposit straight to my account. Banamex had lost the original information I had supplied to them.
As I had previously had difficulty with them on two separate occasions, I decided to close the account. When I had first opened the account with them in Merida, as i was living there, they smudged my applications ink and insisted I rewrite the application, but only after they had diddled with that application for over a month. Then it took them another 6 weeks to process the second application.
The same occurred when I came to Mexico City. I had to rewrite the application a second time as someone in the Banamex office had made an incorrect entry in finishing the application.
In January when I decided to close the account it took me half an hour to convince them to close it then and there. I literally had to scream at them after 30 minutes and make a scene. They were not interested in allowing me to close the account, and wanted me to close it at a future date. I was so loud that every customer in the store turned to see what the commotion was, my very intention, and only through sheer embarrassment was I able to get what I wanted done.
I am now with ScotiaBank.

Oh yes, the infamous "gringo dance". It usually invokes howls of laughter behind the scenes and reaffirms the "Ugly American". You are lucky Moonraven isn't still posting. This was one of her favorite topics.

I miss Moonraven too! If she came back to Dave's, she could let us know what attire is appropriate (or maybe "inappropriate" would be a more appropriate word) to wear while doing the Gringo Dance.

Yes, I played the UGLY AMERICAN to the hilt, and would do it again in the same circumstance in a heartbeat.
