I'm also interested in doing this next year (2009). Can you tell me if air fare is provided up front? What about teachers with a dependant child? Will the child's costs be covered, ie. air fare, education, and health care?

--

Basically, yes, yes, and yes. Air fare is covered up front, just keep the receipt if neccesary. The child is a "dependant," and their concerns are covered.

This is Great! I've been considering trying to get a position at an American School there, which I'm pretty sure would pay better, but I think I like this program better, at least at first. I was mainly concerned about my son's education. If I teach at an American school, his tuition is provided. I wonder, though, if he'd need to go to the same school where I taught? I'd not mind it much, if he wouldn't be subject to harrassment for being a little different, but only for a little while. By fith grade, at least, I'd want him in a western curricular program.

My son is half Taiwanese. I lived there for years and am thinking about moving back when I'm finished with my MA (in Teaching), and looking for the best fit for us. I had not heard of this program while there. I was offered a job in an elementary school just before I decided to leave, but it wasn't through any program such as this. The school had an opening and I knew someone who knew someone. Wish I could have taken it.

Thanks. If you can provide any more specific information about this program, I'd be really greatful!

Just remember that your "dependants" concerns covered are regarding housing. Any sort of educational arrangement for him has to be made aside of the main contract. Well, that's my guess anyways. If your son speaks Taiwanese or Mandarin, he should be alright. BTW, I had a Eurasian kid in my school there, and she wasn't being picked on for being different.

See about international schools or being taught locally on a modified program...

Contact Footprints Recruiting, their website is easy to find.

Archon - thanks for taking the time to respond to our questions.

I am going to be doing a phone interview with Footprints. Can you tell me what your experience was like when you did this? Was the MOE involved in this interview? What kind of questions did they ask and what kind of questions should I ask?

Wow - I am getting so excited about all of this!

You can PM me or post here.

Thank you Archon.

Thanks for the PM message Archon.

Here is another question for Archon or anyone else. I have been contacted to set up an interview time with FR. When I have the interview will they call me or will I call them? I know I have to call to set up an interview. I will use my landline if I know I will interview at home - but if I know I need to call on my lunchtime at work or such - then I will need to use a cellphone borrowed from a friend. But I need to know if they call me or I call them. I actually emailed them about this - but didn't get an answer about that.

Anyone else talked to FR yet?

They are trying to tell me the jobs are filled and trying to see if I will accept another job - ones that pay much lower and no perks.

So who else recruits for the MOE in Taiwan?

Do these recruiters get extra commission to get someone to accept one of those lower paying - no perk jobs?

I didn't just fall off the turnip truck - I know there are other ways to find a job in Taiwan and lots of other recruiters.

Sorry to hear about your problem. Must have been communication difficulties. Browse www.esldewey.com.tw www.tealit.com www.esl99.com and www.seriousteachers.com Best of luck!

BTW, I don't want to rub salt in your wound, but I've been basically accepted for a job with the MOE.
