You get me wrong smedini. I have nothing against on line degrees- in essence all distance learning is on line now, is it not. And the Open University in UK is a super place to study. I have even thought about going the PhD route there- especially after Kuwaiti University told me I was too old to qualify for a grant
No, I object to the manufactured on line degrees that cost $300 and take two weeks.....the one my colleague studied so hard for.............RIP. |

Those fake degrees existed 30 years or more before anyone ever heard of something called the internet. There have always been companies providing fade certificates from an office somewhere. The internet has just made it easier to find them with "the google."
For a country to damn all online degrees because some are fake is rather typical of the things that Kuwait tends to do. But, that is easier than actually doing a legitimate vetting job.

With all due respect VS.......perhaps people should have a bit more integrity.
I can hold my hand up and say I have never cheated on anything in my life.I just couldn't as 1) I would feel guilty and 2) I have been brought up better .
It makes me sick to the bones to work alongside people who have lied through their teeth about qualifications, while their 'religious siblings' cover for them.....
It shouldn't be all the fault of inept Ministry emploees who don't 'catch them out'. They don't have the training or the know how. I think schools could get on the blower and check out a few alumni and certificates, don't you?
However, when you do ''tell on someone'', you are accused of sour grapes and inevitably, it's easier for the powers that be ( school admin )to just ignore - because as long as they have a white face in a classroom , they don't give a *beep*. |

anything with 'extension' in the name is bad in kuwait's eyes
one of harvard many schools is harvard extension school - google it - bit it is ranked below the laughable arab open university in the eyes of the kuwait ministry of f%$*#ing higher education
duke, mit and geogia tech have similiar 'night' schools - fully recognized by their host school, their graduates sit beside the host's other colleges/schools at commencement - all schools are recognized and authenticated by accredition agencies in the usa but kuwait refuses to recognize them
kuwait is truly the anus of the gulf |

Where was there any suggestion that they shouldn't? I highly doubt that there are more fake degrees now (percentage wise) than there were before the internet.
Integrity can be a rare commodity and always has been. Human nature hasn't changed. And it seems even more rare among expats who are only after the cash... no matter what the color of their skin or their religion or their passport.
