Thank you so much for the advice everyone! It's nice to know other people have been in my situation. Unless I get a polish boyfriend here (that probably WON'T happen) I'm probably going to leave Glogow in the fall. The only advantages to a small town is the price of a pint at the pub. |

there are several advantages to a small town, but for you, probably not. it's who you are, what you are, and what you're looking for. you went into this blind, and for the most part, Poland probably isn't an ideal match for you, no matter where you will live. not that it would be impossible for you to enjoy yourself in Poland, but there may be somewhere more appropriate for you.
I love Poland, but I can't think of a single person back home I would recommend it to as far as a place to live. Poland is specific, maybe even an acquired taste. |

I think we have to give lilly some credit here for giving her small town a good shot, and not being ready to write Poland off entirely. She may actually find that she'll totally enjoy a larger city, when she relocates in the fall. |

Hey Lilly, forget Glogow, I used to live in Leszno and taught 2 classes in your town. Its different for a woman than a guy. I knew no one in Leszno when I first went in 2004, now I still have really good friends from there and a Polish wife. I am also Canadian, could reccomend you to my boss in the school I work for as she seems to treat all the native speakers very well, we start full classes again in Oct. My wife also works for a large international company and she could get you into their social network. We BBQ EVERY weekend or are in the Rynek 4 times a week, no children yet. Plus my wife did spend 16 months with me in Canada. Make arrangements to meet in Wroclaw rynek and worst thing to happen is you think we drink too much ,lol. |
