One more thing about Xalapa; the classical music scene is quite active for a relatively small city. In case you care. If not a classical music fan, I'm sure it's not difficult to avoid it.

Maybe I'm old and fat and maybe I dress funny, but I know an olmec head when I see it cuz they had replicas there on Avenida Revolucion in TJ when I used to go down there to that nice Basque restaurant next to the fronton.

It (the replica of the one in Jalapa) was big and round and it was there looking out the window across the street while I waited in line to get into the Picasso museum in Barcelona and I am sure the sign said it was olmec.

in fact here's a picture from the wikipedia article on - wait for it - Olmecs

Rats! It won't paste, but you can see it here...

I'm sure it's Olmec too. I have a great visual memory, and I distinctly remember seeing it on the grounds of the museum in Jalapa during that Semana Santa visit I mentioned earlier in this thread. Once you've been in the presence of one of those monumental, somewhat Buddha-like heads, you'll never forget it!

Hi, I know this was probabaly posted awhile ago, but in case u still havent gone I just wanted to tell you that I lived and studied at the UV (Universidad Veracruzana) for a year. I liked it, but I would rather go back to a different part of Mexico. I felt that the people there were snobby and it rained ALL of the time. Other than that I ended up making some good friends and a boyfriend (I am still with him) and the food is AWESOME. Suerte.
