The "WS" at the end of the email is suspect. Most UAE ministries have an email that looks like this: [email protected]. This address suggests that the offices are in Naif (downtown Deira Dubai) and the email has "Ajman" in it....an emirate about an hour away. I smell a rat. Not only that, the phone number...maybe some current Dubai residents can give feedback, but Deira phone numbers never started with 338. The number looks like a Bur Dubai exchange. Did you call this number during the day? I used Skype, and I got the fax machine right away (though it's late evening there).
This just in:I just googled United Arab Emirates-Ministry of Interior Naturalization & Residency Administration-Dubai. The first thing that came up was the global recruiters scam. Take a look at this ad-same phone number as your own job app:

For your traveling visas and work permit, you are advised to contact the below listed address directly. This is the office that is responsible for final approval and issuance of visas and work permit.

I should have spotted this first: 17 Naif Road?? lol UAE residents will attest to the fact that there are no street addresses. Thanks for sharing this info. I've added this thread to the Global Recruiters sticky. |

Stay well clear.
This is an obvious scam.
ws is the internet country code for Western Samoa.
Mishmumkin is right, PO Boxes and not street names are used in the UAE and the Gulf in general.
It's clear that scam here is to take the 'fictious' visa fees.
Pass the word, avoid........... |

|

HI!
I am just curious..Why do these people do scams?
For myself, the reason I would like to find employment abroad is I don't have the means to travel..I will need an employer to help me get to their place. ..
So, you think, I won't get a reply from Aswan anymore? What do you thinkt they will do next?
Oh...I guess, I will just not entertain their emails anymore..unless you are interested??? I can continue entertaining them..for the heck of it...
My prayers,
Corabel |

teacherbel,
I'm so glad that we caught this before you had sent them any more money. If you recall, I was suspicious of them from your first post... too many things didn't make sense. I felt that the salary and benefits were VERY high.
The reason for the scams? easy money... they may only get a few hundred dollars from you, but it has cost them little. They are mostly going after people like you in India or the Philippines or other poor countries where people are desperate to find a good job and improve their lives. Most people don't have access to a website like this to check things out, so they just lose the money.
If Aswan even exists... and I suspect that they don't, why are they doing their hiring through what appears to be a Nigerian scam? Forget them...
So... time to move on and find a better job. Avoid agents if you can. Apply directly to the schools.
Hey Mishmumkin... where should she apply?

| It's a harder job market for Philipinos, IMO. Tragically, this goes back to the general racist belief about what jobs Philipinos should hold in the UAE. I can't say that I worked with any Philipino teachers, but you're well-papered and qualified to teach in one of the 50 states, so I would aim your applications at IB schools and those teaching a US curriculum. |

This scam has 2 real purposes.
1. To get you to have to pay for "visa" fee's so they can scam your money, in fact they will probalby try to get a credit card #, and then run it up.
2. To get your passport information. With your passport, they gain your date of birth, passport #, and lots of other information they can then resell to other people.
That is why if it sounds just too good to be true, it probably is. |

Hi, Guys!
Re- the salary offer
These "scammers" must be doing their job very well, too. They must have researched that in NY the take home pay for public school teachers is between $3,800-P5,000. For Filipinos specifically, for two years, we don't pay taxes because of an almost forgotten treaty between the U.S.-Philippines. It was created so when American taught in the Philippines they didn't need to pay taxes..but that was when the Philippines was still a Commonwealth and a newly independent country from the U.S. It was never forseen that Filipinos will become teachers in the U.S. too.
I just received an email from Aswan reminding me of the contract they sent to me. I apologized that I am not in the position to accept their job offer anymore because I can't pay the visa fee.
I might try China. I taught there for two years and it was great. The pay was $1,200 for me..but considering the expenses there...i had a great time..I don't think I would take a risk in an Arab country...There are too many gruesome stories in Philippine newspapers about how some Filipino females were treated there...
In any case, thanks a lot, guys/gals..
My prayers,
Corabel |
