The Resident's Permit entitles him to return to China as long as it is not cancelled or invalidated. The PSB haven't done that, so it ought to be valid until September.

BUt he won't be allowed to rent a new apartment, for instance (if he goes to the trouble of doing so legally by registering with the local PSB).

What we all don't know is whether the heightened security concern gives the PSB the leverage with Immigration to stop a laowai entering from another country.

I don't think the poster's employer went to the trouble of reporting his employee as having quit his job; there is no incentive for them to do so. If he wants to get a new job, then, of course, they will be interested in writing a bad reference letter.

But the cops taking an initiative of their own with a laowai coming back to China on an uncancelled RP? I think not!

Again, for the record the incident to which I refer and the incident to which this poster refers are two totally unrelated items. The above-poster would be well-advised to take note of this.

Well, I must say that the incident with the New Zealand teachers that you described was similar to, nay, eerily similar to, that incident with which I am very familiar. If they are not the same then I stand corrected.

But, since, as you concur, I didn't in fact say where the incident I related occurred... how can you be certain they are not the same? Perhaps we were working on two different campuses of the same university? Or perhaps the ladies worked on another campus, or another Uni to me, but I was familiar with them?

Maybe you and I were ships passing in the night there?

And, we have different recollections of what may in fact be the same event... (involving mother and daughter New Zealanders exited from China where, allegedly, upsetting their school/class with Taiwan related issues was used as a pretext)

Possible?

Ah, but no dear readers, I must admit that this eerily similar situation, at least the one to which I am referring, occurred in HuNan province 2.5 years ago and not in a remote, poor region of a far northern province, as in NCL's case.

But, that therefore doubly reinforces the point we should make to the OP that in certain scenarios where, if you hand over your Passport to your FAO and/or PSB, your Resident Permit can be cancelled and you can be rapidly evicted from China.

Here's the thing: You don't know if it's been invalidated until you try to enter or leave the country.

if you go into the PSB and ask them they will look at the visa in your passport and say " Looks good" without ever looking on the computer.

In 1978 neither the Borders nor the PSBs were on computers.

Now some are and some are still not.

The main train station border (sic) with HK is on the INTERPOLE connect, no other is.

So again, when you return, no one here can give you any assurance as to what is going to happen.
