Is there an obligation to speak the truth just because you think you know the truth?

Is there an obligation to point out other's perceived deficiencies just because you perceive them?

Is there an obligation to defend yourself from critics?

Is there an obligation to counter-attack when attacked?

Is there an obligation to try to justify yourself at any cost?

Is there an obligation to have a dog in the fight and to take sides?

I think there is a much higher obligation to the community that constitutes this board, virtual as it may be.

Having an overbearing picky teacher who is a nutcase on grammar is not what most students or employers want. This is especially true where student's marks drop from being switched off in class.

I don't profess to be a grammar expert and have no interest in the subject. I am employed to teach conversation / speaking skills which I'm good at.

If one listens to conversations between Westerners the grammar is in general terrible.

I was told once by an experienced journalist that the best way to write for the general public was in a simple way like is spoken by your average worker. He said that speaking in some high flouting way didn't get papers sold.

When one is writing for Uni exams in general one will rewrite a number of times to get the flow to sound right. I doubt many university teachers are worried much about grammar per see provided they can understand clearly what has been written.

Now what have I been employed for this time? Ive been employed to teach kids from rich families that have fallen behind on their marks to get where their parents want them to be. Who did I teach in my last job? I taught kids that didnt make the grade at middle school that were allowed to train to become elementary school teachers. After I started teaching their marks went up by 20% for entrance into a teachers university in Nanjing.

So Amoo send your make believe kids to your grammar expert and see what results you get. That is what is happening all over Asia with local teachers who study grammar year in and year out but cant get their students to speak English.

The question of whether grammar and spelling matter has been debated in countless threads. Could we hear more comments and experiences about the application, fair or otherwise, of the rules about age and length of employment?
