Changzhou - Wuxi by taxi about 200 RMB, more or less, price can negotiated....but take the bus if you can. There is frequent, frequent service, the buses are clean and new and the price is indeed very reasonble.

There would be no reason to take a taxi to Wuxi. The D train is quick and cheap. A bus takes longer.
Unless you are going to hire a private taxi to take you to Wuxi and ferry you around all day then take you back to your home it would be a waste of money. |

The Wuxi Metro is one of the larger Metro stores in China but truly pricey even by Metro standards.
Suzhou is close but Nanjing is actually about 4 hours away. Shanghai is even closer and you could even maintain a weekend flat in Shanghai and commute. I know teachers who do just that. |
No.
Wuxi Metro is not especially large or pricey, but better stocked than Nanjing for both the foreign and domestic products you've come to know and love.
NANJING is about one and a half hours from Wuxi by express train (not 4!). Shanghai well under one hour, Suzhou not even half an our.
NCL, are you familiar with the many places you post about or are you using Google?
FYI, best pizza in Wuxi can be had at Romano, the address of which escapes me at the moment.
I think Wuxi is a good place to base yourself since the express train makes day trips elsewhere so easy.
Weird things about Wuxi: taxi companies do not allow call ins (ie "Come pick me up at such and such a location.") and you cannot by advance train tickets from travel agents for other places [both items told to me by Chinese who've lived there for years, which means about a 50% chance of being right ] |

Falsehood. There are many train ticket offices spread throughout Wuxi including in the city center and at Jangnan University. You can but tickets for something like 5 days in advance of your travel date.
Metered taxis no idea but there are tons of privates taxis ( the students call them black taxis) that take you where you want to go for a flat fee.
Went to Metro, a good store, some things pricey but great selection.
Many places to buy pizza. Chain stores rank on the bottom of the taste grid. |

I hate to sound critical, but do you think you could say some more? That way you might get some help.
EDIT: Never mind, I see you're the OP who went from not yet there to expert in a heartbeat. |

| Its not hard to be an expert about Wuxi - there isn't much happening here. |

| It can't be as dull as Changzhou, can it? I have yet to find anywhere to go except Starbucks and shopping. At least there's a TESCO and WalMart. Oh, went to the "Monkey Pizza" place once, but it is far away from my area. |

OK, what would you like to be happening there? Give us a list of things that are missing (basically what I asked you in my last post). That way me may be able to suggest alternatives. |

I'm in Wuxi now and I know of one company that will pick me up when I call, though I'm not entirely sure if that's legal or not... |

I should also note that I meant buying tickets, say, from Shanghai to Hangzhou.
In any case, of course such taxi operation is legal. It was told to me by Chinese who lived there and thought Wuxi rather strange. |

Because a Chinese person tells you something it means it's legal?
There's hundreds of "private" taxis in Wuxi. I think very few of them are licensed as taxis or insured as a vehicle for hire / transport.
I think they are mostly illegal taxis-people use their own cars to make some money. |
