Not Olympics related, but probably doesn't warrant a new thread is this:

LITTLE LEAGUE

Mexico pitcher tosses perfect game

Jessu Sauceda, a 13-year-old from Matamoros, Mexico, pitched the fifth perfect game in Little League World Series history and the first in 29 years when he struck out all 12 batters Sunday in a 12-0 win over Emilia, Italy. The game was ended early because of the 10-run mercy rule.

First Gold Medal for Mexico - Guillermo Prez in Taekwondo.

A Prez from Michoacn - that makes him almost family!! Laughing Should be fun when we go to the "ranch" next weekend.

Strange to relate, but I got kinda emotional watching his victory and hearing the Mexican National Anthem in the medal ceremony. TV Azteca commentator Antonio Rosique cried! . I guess it is so much sweeter for a nation that has to struggle for medals, rather than a country such as China, USA or GB.

BTW, 37 medals (16 Golds) and counting for GB Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Britain's been punching above their weight these Olympics...they weren't expected to do so well...bravo to them.

And of course, good show Mexico!

Apparently we won 55 Golds in 1908 - but it's not comparable, as many events only had British competitors! In reality, this is our biggest Gold Medal haul ever.

Anyone else feel like they're missing most of the olympics due to the appalling Mexican TV coverage? The time difference doesn't help but they only seem to show 3 different events, and of course the endless repetition of Mexico's one gold. Will there be a national holiday?

I think a national holiday would be great idea, but not sure we'll get it after one gold medal. I hear the Jamaicans are planning one though Smile

Yeah, I'm not sure how much we can read into those medals won in 1908, the tug of war was still an event!! Be great to bring that back...

Luckily I've managed to get hold of some BBC iplayer streams ove the net, so it's been great watching the olympics with the old beeb...

Yeah, a great opportunity to broadcast through the night live, when the majority of the events are taking place, but....nothing! (Some of us who are not telly addicts can't justify the cost of satellite/cable!)

18 Gold Medals and I haven't heard the British National Anthem once.

... instead they show endless repeats of 'la firma' and over-hype the mediocrity of Mexico.

Seeing as I'm off work I actually got to see quite a lot of real sports--from who know what time before I got up in the morning until 10 am and from 1pm to 4 only repetitions of sports--none of the "comedy". My girls have decided to become scynonized swimmers, so watch for them in 2020, they have yet to decide which country to compete for (They like the Russian flag--haven't quite got the concept of nationality yet.)
