For those who don't know, visa processing used to be done at the Consulate in Jeddah, but has been handed over to a private company for a year or so now. And yes, you guessed it, it is manned mostly by locals, a people/race known for the worst customer service in the world.

Well, without a reference/support letter from Uncle Scot, you will not get the UK visa! Laughing

You've evidently never met Russian waiters, German shop assistants, British immigration officers, Kuwaiti bureaucrats, or tried to get anything done in an Indian bank.

And he's obviously never met a Spanish civil servant or a Parisian employee of SNCF.

Ah, but it's great for raising your patience level.

True, but no human attribute is infinite. If you have to call 150 times to not even get an answer on the other end, I am sure that will test anybody's patience to the limit.

Getting the visa was not the problem... it was finding out if I had gotten it or not. And guess what, they charged me SR. 5 for the optional service of having an SMS sent to my phone to let me know when my passport returned from Riyadh... and yes, I NEVER got a text, because some idiot put my phone number down as +966 2 050....

Russia... I don't care about. And food service is down the ladder of importance compared to service in banks, consulates, hospitals, phone companies, etc. And really, if you have to compare SA to Russia....

Germany... I am sure if you call 150 times, someone will pick up the phone.

Britain... I had no trouble with the immigrations officers this time or last time I went. You are not seriously comparing the immigration officers there with the ones here, are you??? You are white-skinned, so of course they bow down to you when you enter SA. Ask the brownies and blackies how they are treated, which is the majority of the people entering SA.

Kuwait... Same thing as Saudi Arabia. Same people, same nonsensical policies, same bureaucracy.

India... Again, I am sure someone will answer at least once if you call 150 times. And again, if you have to compare SA to India....

Yes, and [to teach us] other things as well!

P.S. I will admit... face-to-face customer service [from the locals] is magnitudes of order better now than it was say, 10 or 15 years ago. Some of them speak impressive English. But as far as calling an establishment goes, unless you are calling a dedicated call-center (for eg., mobile phone help line), prepare for your calls to go unanswered many many times even if the line is not busy (they are chatting/taking a smoke break/drinking tea, etc).

Dear trapezius,

"True, but no human attribute is infinite."

How about incompetence and ignorance?
