well in my last job i earned enough to pay rent, bills, eat, buy clothes when necessary, go out a couple of times a week, and have a weekend away once a month. that's my idea of comfortable.
would this salary be enough to facilitate that kind of lifestyle? |
Well, it would depend on the sort of place (location+size) you'd like to live in, the sort of places you'd like to eat at/buy groceries at, the sort of entertainment options you like and the sort of place you'd like to go (distance+lodging+transportation) to for a weekend away every month. I couldn't do all that with 10,000 pesos a month, but that doesn't really mean much, does it? |

| Well I'll probably be going to Mexico City. Is 10,000 a reasonable salary there, or should I be asking for more? What's the average salary for teachers in Mexico City? |

that was the funniest thing i've read in a long time. a huge insult to everyone in northern NJ.
10000 isn't enough to live very comfortably in DF unless you find really cheap housing (with a roommate, for example). it's difficult to find a decent single for less than 4500/month. there's also the problem of buying furniture and setting up utilities (much worse than it should be). depending on how long you will stay, that's something to consider. so, that's half your salary right there. if you actually plan to buy clothing in mexico, you can get low-quality threads that fall apart quite cheaply, decent clothing will cost much more than it would at home. you're better off bringing your good stuff with you.
upside--travel is cheap, food is relatively cheap if you know where to eat. |
