Well if anyone is still reading this thread... i haven't signed on to this site in over three years.

I work in one of the Shanghai NDIs... formerly an Only English. Late last year NDI was merged with Only English. Only English's company's director is now the director/owner of NDI. (she was in fact our locations director as well and is very nice - Shelia's her name)

I've been at Only English since 2007 and i can say that i nor any current teacher has gone through anything close to what was mentioned previously in this thread so take what you read with a grain of salt.

Never had late pay, no arguments, no being f*cked over by management. they treat the students reasonably well. lessons vary from boring or tedious to some great lessons - and in fact at our location (there are four in sh) the teachers are pretty much left alone (we often do our own lessons). Yes the school is open 7 days a week but so are many businesses/industries. If you don't want to work weekends - don't! I don't know what others are getting paid but I'm getting paid just under 16 a month and had a 5000 resign bonus, nothing special but better than nothing. We have three full timers, two of us have been there for close to two years, if thats any indication - most English schools would be lucky to have teachers sign second year contracts. The Chinese staff are great... really great. probably some of the nicest people I've worked with...ever! Some teachers had Visa problems(their own fault), but the school came through, i also did (my fault) and school, came through again. My manager is pleasant, and never ever had a problem with her. I paid for my Visas... but really i could spend that same amount in five hours at the bar...

some cons are:
Holidays are non-existent for first year teachers, second year is is 5 days paid, sucks but still my choice to stay. At my location , old building, it gets a little uncomfortable weather wise in peak summer... Chinese students are SO used to it they don't care - i bitch and complain for two minutes then forget about it. Chinese staff are not allowed to leave the school during work hours and they get paid next to nothing (however, and count it, three former colleagues of of mine are now school directors themselves - its says something about loyalty)

teachers teach five one hour lessons, and work hours, depending on the shift vary from 8.5 to 7. After three months, the lessons pretty much teach themselves with VERY little prep. I only teach one night shift and one weekend. All teachers get at least a Sat or Sun off. Never any split shifts, or non consecutive days off.

Its teaching adults, not kids, mostly female at least 20:1.

RE: didn't give you a cake - what kind of complaining is that!!!!???

Sounds like MISCAL really IS 'on the payroll'.

Earlier posts are truthful and should not be dismissed by later generalisations.

Want the 'real story'; question several teachers as they exit the school for a couple days.

"The truth is out there".

NDI is a CON

"On the payroll"?!?!? Stick it your up payroll!

people come here, ask about a company, maybe even an exact school/location/company... and everybody chimes in with the worst of the worst!! then everybody else who reads this thinks, "Screw all NDI schools (or insert school/company of your choice HERE)"... and they may lose out on a good opportunity.

Call the school itself, and talk to teachers directly, don't rely solely on the internet for your info - People rarely relay good stories!

I just wanted to show you ALL LOCATIONS ARE NOT EQUAL!!
