It depends.

If I'm departing for a relatively short break - one or two weeks - then I try to arrange my flights so that I'm away for the longest possible time and don't 'waste' time hanging around Riyadh. However, when it's the summer break, and I'm going to be away for a month or two, a few days don't make much difference either way. In this situation, I'm happy to allow a day or two to sort things out before I leave, or to rest up after my flight before starting work again.

I really don't' think such choices reveal much about the individual. It's mroe about practicalities.

I think the ones that fall into category 1 are in need of medical attention...why would anyone choose to work in a country where they felt the need to rush to the nearest exit at the mere mention of a holiday.

Having said, that, I do realize and sympathize with the many expat. folks that live here and have family waiting for them on the outside so for those people I guess they would be more inclined to fall in category 1.

BTW am with the category 2 crowd...no family waiting for me...no need to rush around like a chicken with its head chopped off... Very Happy add to the fact that KSA is my home at the moment and so feel no need to rush anywhere..... except from work to home and from tammimi to home Very Happy
....My mother was russian, my father was russian, but I'm not going anywhere!

I found that the longer I stayed in Saudi Arabia, the less anxious I was to get on that first available flight out of there for holiday. I also discovered that by waiting a couple of days (and using the time to get everything ready for my return), I missed most of the mob scenes at the Riyadh airport. So,
yup, especially in my later years there, I used to generally wait a day or two.
Moreover, I'd often come back a couple of days early to give myself time to readjust. I always found the "jet-lag" going east to west never seemed to give me much trouble, but coming back it would take at least three or four days to feel right.

Maybe this is due to the accumulation of all the illegal substances in the body while back home, which take time to expel from one's system when one returns to KSA...in other words going through "withdrawl symptoms"??? Razz However, I know this doesn't apply to you John Wink

Whether they accumulate substances or not in their travels, many people find that jet lag is worse when travelling east. Also, the accumulation of years (and I believe this applies to johnslat! Smile ) makes it harder to recover from jet lag as well.

I preferred to sleep my jetlag off on the job in Saudi.

I actually think it helped me adjust because it took me a day or two to realise i was back in the sandtrap.
