Unfortunately, while Instituto Baden-Powell in Morelia is still a good school to teach at , it has been negatively affected by the poor Mexican economy so much so that registration has dropped dramatically. This means there aren't has many teaching hours available and teachers are not always paid on time.
I do hear that CENTRO EDUCATIVO MONARCA in Zamora is a good place to teach but they too have some enrollment issues. |

Phil, is there any place that serves decent fish n' chips in the DF (I can't remember if I asked you before or not)
If not, maybe you could branch outta EFL and open up shop |

Hi out there, Has anyone had experience with the Tehuacan/Puebla/SLP-based Instituto Heslington (aka "HELP!")? "Paid volunteer" positions for short terms.
Thanks... |

I would steer well clear of any "paid" volunteer positions. |

I would suggest that a 'paid volunteer position' may well be suitable for a new teacher, starting out and wishing to gain some experience.
My advice would be to ask the institution to put you into contact with a present or a recent teacher so you can be in contact with them directly. you may get a better picture of how things are run. Any reasonable school would be happy to do this. |

I would also steer clear of a "paid volunteer" position. If a new teacher wants to gain experience the market is flooded with institutes at the bottom end who will hire them with no experience and little training. The pay may be quite similar to a volunteer position but if thats not a big concern for the applicant then they would be better off, if only from a visa point of view, with a regular contract position. |

I am confused. What's the difference between a job available to a novice teacher and a so-called paid volunteer position? |

Sounds funny to me too. Maybe the school is being more up-front about the fact that you will be working illegally and be paid under the table, which would be the same case in many independently owned language schools as well. |

Whenever I hear about "volunteer" teaching positions, I imagine a language school owner making out like bandits. Imagine getting people to teach for you for free! |
