1. Same resolution as always: constantly try to be nicer, calmer, and more rational than last year

As for more tangible goals:

2. Learn Japanese--at the very least, well enough to be able to understand my TV and converse in complete sentences rather than individual words and pained facial expressions

3. Join JALT or some such organization

4. Develop some vices so that next year I will have something to give up (I am perfectly OK with the few vices that I have now... no need for them to go!)

Hey Iain, you didn't hear the news? We tied the knot on November 24th! Can you believe I'm a married woman now? hee-hee! I still blush when I say "my husband" Smile

Well, CONGRATULATIONS!

I read this joke recently:

A woman worries about the future until the day she gets married. A man doesn't start worrying until the day he marries her.

And how, exactly, do you propose to do that?

Give up the sweetest poison (sugar). I'm talking every bit of sugar except that found in fruit. I have been doing it for a month as a trial and hope to keep it up for the whole year.

Also, give up coffee and take more risks and start saving.

Start saving? Are you mad. You have as much chance of that as me giving up smoking

1-Take up smoking.
2-Start drinking much more-preferably hard liquor from a stein.
3-Gain at least 50 lbs.
4-Make a minimum of 100 posts per day at Dave's.

But seriously-leave Canada, become more fluent in Spanish and then learn to just go with the flow.

Reviving a thread from 2003 ? Incidentally Damien, the original poster died of cancer some years ago. RIP.
