Hi,
I am a reasonably new EFL teacher. I have over a year experience, but am interested in getting professionally certified to try and open up some new, possibly better opportunities. I have been looking into on-line programs, and I figured that I'll need something at least 100 hours plus some kind of practical component. However, I also heard that it is possible to become certified by doing the on-line component and then demonstrating relevant job experience instead of doing the practical. I read about in specifically in relation to this course:

Has anyone heard of this actually happening before? I would like to be certified to get a better job, but I don't really want to take a break from work right now to do it. |

It's possible, but you also might want to check with TEFL course providers in your area, more and more are offering part time courses, on the weekend that can be completed in a couple months' time. |

This one consists of 250 course hours regardless of whether you do the course online or on-site in Toronto. The teaching practice is on-site and consists of both 10 hours of observation (you observe other teachers) and 10 hours of supervised/graded teaching practice (you teach real ESL/EFL students). You can do the teaching practice either in Toronto or you can make arrangements with another site but the site would have to be able to meet TESL Canada's requirements for the teaching practicum. |
