| I was offered Junior Kindergarten. A little younger than what I'm used to, but I'm definitely more comfortable teaching primary and I'm hoping that with working fewer hours (I finish at 1) and not having as much prep, I'll have more time to tutor and top up my salary. That's my biggest worry: I want to be able to pay off loans and still take advantage of the travel opportunities from the UAE. I'm also concerned that, because the school is not accredited yet and may not be for a while, my experience will not transfer home in terms of salary scale. |

roscoerob,
Check with BCTF (TQS side of things) to find out if your overseas service will be credited. Also check the retired teachers web sites BCTF, ATA, MTS, etc to look for jobs which have better pay and a Canadian connection. BC has several school projects which use the BC curriculum overseas. Maple Bear is a Canadian firm using K-6 Canadian curiculum (West Can Protocol) in Brazil, China, Paris, India, etc. Check them out. If you have a B.A. B.Ed. you are well situated in the emerging English markets since many are moving away from the traditional ESL candidates and are beginning to recruit trained provincially/state certified teachers. China is a big emerging market with a great deal of focus upon Canadian Curriculum.
Good luck. |
