Perhaps they were slightly concerned that the last time you came to work in Japan you barely worked 2 months before leaving.
Unless you mistyped the dates in your post before with the email you sent them, it does seem as though you got issued with a 3 year visa but only worked for december and january (that's assuming you didn't have time off at xmas) before leaving without an re-entry permit, which does suggest you left with no intention of returning to the Aeon job.
I'm honestly not trying to be mean, but if you gave them as little info as you have given us as to the circumstances of you leaving last time, then they might not be convinced that you won't leave again. |

Hi, thanks for the reply. I gave them the full reason for why I left after only two months (terminally ill grandmother) and said that that was why I left and didn't know if I would be returning and that was why I didn't have a re-entry permit.
Would it be more beneficial to not mention that I've worked in Japan before because I was only there a short time? |

I'm sorry to hear about your grandmother. I haven't seen an application form yet that hasn't asked for your last dates of entry, reason and duration of stay, so I think leaving it out could be considered a little dishonest. But any company that doesn't show compassion with regards to you leaving last time, probably isn't a company you want to be working for anyway. |

| Based on what the OP-starter posted, it sounds like they won't have any positions available for a few more months. So either way, hopping on a plane immediately (for this company) doesn't sound realistic. |

I sent my app again on Saturday and this time specified that I'd be willing to teach anywhere in the Tohoku area rather than just Sendai. I don't expect to hear anything from them this week since it is GW.
It doesn't hurt to be persistent with them. |

That may be why they haven't contacted me. I was hoping that my mere presence in the Tohoku area combined with my prior ESL teaching experience in Japan would work out to my advantage. 
Maybe I need to hang out in Glenski's neighborhood in Hokkaido and have some of his good ESL teaching luck rub off on me  |

| I'm sorry for bumping this topic, but I was wondering if anyone here has recently worked for J.E.S. When looking it up myself by googling, they were all pretty old. To me, J.E.S. seems really good for an eikaiwa choice (especially since the working areas are where my placement choices were for JET). I would just like to get some more feedback on it or more of those employed through J.E.S. and their experiences. |

My specific area of Hokkaido is not the best place to find teaching work, to say the least. We tried to find a part-timer for university classes last year (for this year), and only one candidate applied from the city area. That person was turned down, and we expanded our search to all of Hokkaido. Two people responded, but they wanted/needed full-time work, so they were turned down. The search was widened to all of Japan, and we got replies from Tokyo, New Zealand, and even Rome, Italy (!), but none of the applicants met our qualifications or had serious visa issues. Most were obviously just shotgunning resumes and didn't even bother to rewrite/customize their cover letters.
We ended up getting a person to commute 3 hours one-way.
I'd like to think I make my own luck. I started out in this biz over a decade ago. Scoured the fledgling Internet sites back then, lurked, collected and collated data for 6 months, and then finally applied. Got a nice job right off. After some years, I changed to a better position, and when that contract was up, I searched long and hard to find what I have now. My special background was one of the main reasons I got it, so you call that lucky or just knowing how to search. |

I'm wondering if I should re-apply, but I don't want to seem like a nuisance as I have randomly e-mailed again just to ask a question . There are quite a few openings for JES and out of all the small eikaiwa I've come across, this one seems to have the best incentives.
I'm doing volunteer ESL teaching now...I just hate the fact that I didn't get the opportunity to add that in when originally sending in the application. |

I don't think it would hurt to re-apply. The worst they can do is say "no" or just not answer you at all, which is what they did me  |
