When i had my interview, I asked if they offer PhD's. The head of department said that the faculty of Engineering was looking to start PhD's within 5 years but other departments will start offering PhD's earlier.

our new faculty who had really bad housing when they arrived last fall have been rehoused to actually quite nice 3 bedroom flats. nobody knows though whether new faculty will be housed properly or not but it seems HR has gotten a good revamp to get some efficiency into this

starting salaries for assistants are now just below 30k in some of the colleges (i dont know about english though)

the payrises did not bring most people up to hct level, but beyond (again, talking about faculty) as it was 25% at one point in spring and then a fixed amount announced during summer

phds will start in autumn in some colleges, so focus will be on research active faculty, particularly in those colleges with external accrediation which requires this

firing policies depend on chair and dean, there are cases of people fired on the spot, but nowhere near as bad as hct, though this really depends on the chair

i consider uaeu a really good place to work after all, but expect quite some admin work and mood swings from management
