Let the dog travel in coach and send yourself as cargo - much cheaper and the dog won't feel a thing

In 2005 I flew from London to Riyadh with my cat in the cabin with me. At that time Saudi Airlines would not permit animals to be carried as checked baggage in cargo. The cat was in her soft sided carrier (which I bought at Selfridges for 60 quid!) under the seat in front of me.

In 1983, I actually flew my DOG in the cabin with me from Riyadh to New York on Saudia in a carrier (though I let the dog, a Schitzu, out once we took off; the steward wasn't happy about that, but what could he do?). But that involved blackmailing a Saudia ticket agent who'd screwed up very badly on my ticket price.
When we deplaned in New York, the Saudi staff at the arrival gate were, to put it mildly, flabbergasted.
