Good for you Phis, its`s true you can live here on a small salary; the school should be honest and tell the teacher what that he or she may not be able to live like they can at home. Unless you are paying 12,000,000 +RP.

But I know thats a lot for a small school. I tell teachers that if they want to make a buck better go to TW. And be a baby sitter as most schools cant pay so well.

I always believe truth is the best, that way no one get what a surprise what you cant play games

Quite a few ads I saw while in Japan stated Canadian or American or British accent preferred. I was shocked that they could advertise that way. If I applied and was refused because I was not British, I wonder if I could sue them....hee hee Wink

There's an Australian guy i worked with my first year in Henan. His wife was a good teacher ...he sucked. He always complained about the school....until he found out he could make money recruiting.

Now he is a moderator on Christman's ? China tefl group (Not to be confused with Helen's China tefl). he recruits for schools he has never seen, makes himself sound like a top teacher (Don't think this is flaming)

His ads say things like "experience the traditional culture and mystique of China" and other such things. Immediate turn off for me. I liked my first school, Sheng Da, in henan. But there was no culture. It is in the middle of nowhere, next to a very small town, where they dump all the garbage next to the pit by the side of the road.

"come experience ancient chinese culture"

It is one thing when a Chinese person attempts such a gimmik, but when a fellow foreigner does?

Well I have seen so problems in schools that have had a change from one accent to another the students as well as the local teachers get confused do you say cup or coup flash light or torch.

Any ad that tells you about the scenery and culture but not about the job is looking for a traveler to play games and keep the kids happy maybe even a clown.

I was told we really want a teacher that can sing and dance well at least she was honest.
