I found this at Yahoo Answers:
That "article" has been floating around the net for going on 10 years. A lot of the info there is opinionated and outdated.

You fail.

Unfair distribution of cover days is also bizarre. I worked 233 days, exactly as my contract said I would. Some of those were, inevitable, cover days. Once or twice my day off was ruined by being on stand-by, when if you are not needed, it doesn't count as a day of work, but that happened to everyone.

I saw my DoS regularly.

The accomodation is slightly overpriced for the most part, but you never have to pay the key money and contract renewal fees that I have had to pay since finding my own accomodation.

Shane are far from perfect, but that sounds like the typical work-shy loser bum's rant.
It was definitely a work-shy loser bum's rant. I'm not real high on Shane, but I'm not very low on them either. They're in the middle of the pack, IMO.

BTW, they've recently gotten rid of stand-by days! Good news if you work there "full-time".

If you come to Tokyo, there's a little Canadian *beep* working in H.R. that is a backstabbing mo fo.

they aren't prepared with the materials come lesson time - missing CD's, broken CD players, books that are missing and no Teacher's books for student textbooks.....secretaries that are dumb and hostile and unhelpful.

I would caution anyone getting involved with SHANE.

plus, for the North American teachers, it's a completely british english syllabus and curriculum. You're teaching - "Lift", "Lorry" and "Brilliant" and how Mr. Dawkins owns a "shop" on the "high street" and "fancy's" a game of golf "at the weekend".

Enough to drive you mental.
The little Canadian guy was okay when I met him a few times... note that I said a "few" times. I don't have a lot to base an opinion on him. That's true about the lack of materials in some schools. The quite supplying teacher's books a few years ago in order to save money. Quality education there! Then again, quality isn't the bottom-line. Finances are.

Also, if you want to accuse the secretaries as being dumb and hostile, what about the teachers themselves? A very large number of teachers there make those dumb secretaries look average!

Also, if you're working at an eikaiwa that emphasizes British English and you're not from Britain, what business have you criticising British English being taught there? You are mental.
