P.s.- We'd better stop this or this could go on forever. I'll bet many are reading these back and forths and thinking "code-talkers". But, even that, is going back way too far for many readers, eh? |

Perhaps those that have watched Vietnam war movies picked it up... assuming that they aren't old enough to remember it...

Just how small is the island? Are there casinos with the hotels as well? I agree that the Bacharachians don't need swarms of drunkard KlingonSA in their country, but haven't they already created such an economy, and don't they have to be responsible for the mess they've made?
Does that mean they will all begin invading the UAE? Where else can an intergallactic traveller find a good stiff drink? |

Nine crossdressers arrested on New Year's Eve
The crossdressers, heavily made-up and wearing provocative outfits, were soliciting revelers at the disco
Michael Jackson was the most famous cross dresser in Bahrain. He used to cruise the malls in his abaya with the kids. An amaziing sight.
January 4, 2010
Manama: Nine Arab crossdressers were arrested on New Year's Eve and charged with public debauchery. They will be tried in a court of law after the public prosecution completes its investigation.
The police did not mention their nationalities, but said that they were from different Arab countries and that they were arrested in a hotel discotheque in Manama. The crossdressers, heavily made-up and wearing provocative outfits, were soliciting revelers at the disco, according to the charges.
Some of the men had changed their looks with plastic surgery, the police said. Homosexuality is banned in Bahrain, but lawmakers, wary of the growing number of gays in the country, have been pushing for a crackdown, including the adoption of tougher immigration measures and prompt deportations. |

No wonder Bahrainis are getting agitated about what's going on in sin city. The repercussions of the sin trade are filtering down to local families.
A TEENAGER jailed for three years for having sex with his 14-year-old Bahraini girlfriend lost an appeal against his conviction yesterday. He was arrested after the girl's father, who caught him in her bedroom, reported him to police in February last year. The Bahraini, 17, was convicted of having sex with a minor by the High Criminal Court last June. The student, who denied the charge, lodged an appeal at the Supreme Criminal Appeals Court, which upheld the verdict. Both are understood to have met after exchanging phone numbers and began dating, despite objections from the girl's father. |

Drug dealing to supply the Saudis. Another example of what's going wrong in Bahraini society. That causeway is both a blessing and a curse.
Court drama as women evicted
By NOOR TOORANI, Posted on Monday, January 11, 2010
POLICE had to restrain a group of Bahraini women who tried to attack officers after being evicted from a courtroom yesterday.
Interior Ministry personnel had to escort at least eight women from the Supreme Criminal Appeal Court, after judges rejected an appeal by one of their male relatives convicted of drug dealing.
They were ushered out of court after hurling abuse at judges, causing chaos at the Justice Ministry complex.
The commotion was such that other courtrooms emptied as lawyers and others went outside to see what was happening.
Police had to lock the gates to the ministry complex after escorting them into the street to stop them getting back in.
However, they remained shouting insults outside the gates for several minutes.
Their relative was arrested during an undercover operation after police received information he was dealing in drugs.
He was convicted of drug dealing last year by the High Criminal Court and jailed for 10 years. The Supreme Criminal Appeal Court yesterday upheld the original verdict. |

What about those tatooed old ladies you sometimes see down at Bab Babrain souk?
Lawmakers push for ban on tattoos in Bahrain
The motion not to allow beauty parlors and salons to make tattoos was endorsed by the parliamentary services commission, paving the way for its discussion on the parliament floor where it is likely to be passed by the conservative MPs who dominate the lower chamber.
Most Arabs and Muslims tend to use henna to form designs on their hands and feet on special occasions, but oppose tattooing as well as plastic surgery on religious and social grounds.
Manama: Lawmakers in Bahrain are pushing for the adoption of a law that will ban tattoos and body piercing. The motion not to allow beauty parlors and salons to make tattoos was endorsed by the parliamentary services commission, paving the way for its discussion on the parliament floor where it is likely to be passed by the conservative MPs who dominate the lower chamber.
Liberal MPs in the upper chamber are also likely to endorse the motion, particularly since most Muslims disapprove of tattooing and that it is not a deep Arab tradition, even though tattoos can be seen in many Arab countries, mainly in rural areas.
Berber women in North Africa make small designs that usually have a symbolic meaning while many Christian women in Egypt tattoo a small cross on their wrist.
Most Arabs and Muslims tend to use henna to form designs on their hands and feet on special occasions. The skin decorations fade away after a few weeks. Muslims oppose tattooing as well as plastic surgery on religious and social grounds. "It involves torture, pain, and waste of money merely for the sake of one's appearance; it is, moreover, an expression of an individual's preoccupation with form rather than substance, with body rather than with spirit," Yousuf Al Qaradawi, a prominent religious scholar, said.
However, he said that plastic surgery should be allowed at times.
"It may happen that a person has an unusual physical defect that causes embarrassment, physical and psychological pain every time he or she meets people. In this case, he or she may treat the defect and alleviate the embarrassment that makes his or her life miserable," he said.
In the US, tattoo laws vary from state to state, though most ban tattoos for minors. Military chiefs last month had to scrap a ban on tattoos decorating the saluting arm of recruits joining the US air force, following a backlash among heavily inked young Americans signing up for duty.
The air force recruiting service instituted a policy on November 25 prohibiting tattoos below the elbow on the right arm of recruits, citing "military image". The service did not want tattoos to be visible when its airmen saluted.
Tatto in figures
A Harris poll in 2008 indicated 14 per cent of the American population has at least one tattoo, a figure slightly less than the 16 per cent in a poll taken in 2003.A 2006 poll by the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology found that 36 per cent of Americans between ages 18 and 29 had tattoos. In 1936, Life Magazine reported that roughly 10,000 Americans, or 6 per cent of the population, had tattoos. |

It looks like nobody was really bothered by Wacko Jackos famous cross-dressing. He'd roam Seif Mall in his abeya and niqab with the kids in little abeyas and niqabs too.
Bahrain club pays tribute to Michael Jackson
Manama: Michael Jackson moved to Bahrain in June 2005, days after the end of a trial on child molestation charges in which he was cleared of any wrongdoing. In a rare compliment to a Western star, the Indian Club in Manama is staging a tribute to pop icon Michael Jackson, a former resident of Bahrain.A band will be performing at the Club on Thursday evening and fans will be invited to join in singing the late star's greatest hits, organizers said.
Michael Jackson moved to Bahrain in June 2005, days after the end of a trial on child molestation charges in which he was cleared of any wrongdoing. His brother Jermaine, who often visited Bahrain, encouraged him to make the move in order to "benefit from the tranquil and placid country and take a real rest, relax and have a worry-free life."
Michael, along with his children, eased into his Bahrain life, sheltered from the onslaught of local and international media and rarely appearing in public places. He left Bahrain in 2006 for Europe and the US, but was deeply mourned by Bahrainis upon the news of his death in 2009. |
