That's a bit of a relief I must admit!
I only want to work for reputable schools, and especially for my first teaching job will be looking for a school that takes care of its teachers, a school that ensures its teachers are working under legal employment contracts should be a good indicator. Although it will always be hard to tell what an employer will be like until you start working for them..

Hi jade_bear.
The general rule of thumb in Prague is if you scratch the school's back then they will usually scratch your back for you in return.
This of course means that if you turn up to classes on time, are prepared, complete any necessary paperwork and don't try to steal students that your school will then usually recognize that you are an excellent ambassador for the school and will also treat you with respect.
My advise is to arrange interviews and go see the schools for yourself and feel the vibe there. Different people are attracted to different work environments and it's important to begin teaching in a teaching environment which stimulates and inspires you.
Some schools can place too much emphasis on paperwork and observations so you definitely need to clarify exactly what will be expected of you when you are interviewing for teaching positions. Another factor is if the school is too large (and perhaps annonymous - being just another teacher in the crowd), or if the school is too small (and also perhaps annonymous - missing out on the social aspect of working with other teachers).

Does anyone have recommendations for travel medical insurance? My insurance back home in the US can't be applied outside the US (I researched). I am leaving in the beginning of September, so I need to find an insurer ASAP. After I finish my September CELTA, I'm hoping to find a job in Prague that provides medical coverage.
So far, I've heard of OZP and BUPA, but it is hard to figure out how legitimate these companies are, whether I'll be able to get clear customer service in English, and whether the coverage is sufficient from their webpages. If you have personal experience with any travel medical/emergency insurance, please give your opinion - it would be much appreciated. Thanks! |

Hi Christine13
BUPA is a legitimate fund here in Australia and is very well known & respected. Therefore I would have no hesitation in using them for international coverage as well.
I got decent medical coverage through my travel insurance (which covers my flights, luggage, etc. as well) which will last me until I secure a job and am able to get local medical coverage.
