| Dalal, I'm almost completely certain you'll be ok. Your situation seems to be the norm actually. |

Marquess, are you certain that it's no longer possible to get a 6 month- residence permit? How do you know? When did that start?
After a sleepless night I checked with some American neighbours and one of them got a six-month ikamet in May. I'm waiting to hear from Yabanci Polis and will let everyone know what they say
To be fair to Marquess, maybe there are different procedures in different parts of the country (I'm in Antalya, not Istanbul, and foreign Tefl teachers are thin on the ground here) |

| It is not a 6 month permit - it is just extending your tourist visa by 3 months to 6 months. |

| So why does it say "oturma" not "turist" on it? |

| If it is a real residence permit, why is it for 6 months and not a year? |

I'm not sure if I really understand what's going here but instead of exchanging helpful info aand sharing experinces -the real point of this forum I presume-I feel as I'm being drawn into an argument with point scoring attached. Correct me if I'm wrong
The fact is that in the real world there are currently at least two foreigners in Turkey who have ikamets for 6 months with "oturma" written in them. This of course doesn't appear on any websites. Are you in Turkey Marquess?
As soon as I find out what Yabancı Polis have to say, I will post the info
Then hopefully I can get back to the issue of what to do about working until my work permit comes through |

You can get a 6 month residence permit. Or a 3 month! (though I don't know why you would, other than to be able to put bills in your name... for 3 months...) A 6 month permit is a good and cheaper alternative for someone who has a shorter contract, or is waiting for their school to provide them a permit.
These are possible - it's just that the year is the standard one. |

| A 3 month residence permit makes no sense. Getting the bills in your own name for 3 months makes no sense. |

| You're absolutely right. But then again, it's government. It doesn't have to make sense. (Maybe it's for nationalities who can't renew their visa at the border?) |

| What do you mean nationalities who can't renew their visas at the border? You cannot renew your visa at the border. You can leave the country and re-enter by buying a new visa. |

Hi
I finally had the brainwave of checking the Antalya Eminiyet Muduru website which shows that a 6 month permit is still possible
Marquess PLEASE check your facts before posting-I have just wasted both my precious time and that of others (including the British consul-not consulate staff-here).
Thanks to everyone else though. |

| So the only benefit to all this is allegedly being able to get the bills in your name? |
