Thank you thank you, to everyone for your responses... i was in Fukuoka in August 2007, yeah, it was sweaty sweaty, you're right, bad time to be looking especially with holidays...
I am 12,000 in debt. I could have easily paid that off in 6 months with my 2006/2007 Korean job, but it's obviously a different world now. I keep getting ideas that China's best, or Japan, but I guess Korea's still the fastest guarantee
I definitely don't see myself getting a group of housewives together for a private anytime soon, though that does sound interesting in itself
Guess I'm headed to Korea again, even if I landed the sweetest job and only drank water and ate rice for the next year, I can't wait 2-4 months for a Visa... alas...
I'll have to come to Fukuoka for a celebration once I pay off my debt again... sorry to all Ghetto-Bootied Japanese girls reading this post! We'll have to wait till next spring...
cheers and thanks |

12,000 in debt is one thing. How much per month are you expected to pay? That is the more telling figure.
Oh, and you're not going to answer my other question...? (re: business side of things) |

business side of things... meaning building sort of western friendly concrete network in korea (don't think i could pull this off in japan, especially from what I've heard) but in korea of using video to connect teachers with schools, perhaps to also use video more in teaching and making the school unique in its 'multimedia'
i know schools are already doing this, even in korea, but seems the potential hasnt' been tapped
just one idea, specifically in korea I've seen an industry that seems ripe for better mousetraps rather than the standard english factory
anyway, i work in film/tv, so I'm trying to figure out how to make more money via making more of an impact on the school... my hagwon owner at my first ESL job in korea let me teach film criticism and I made a few movies about the school that quickly got passed around to other hagwons who were asking me how they could make them themselves... like I do professional work, but this is something I did for fun with my class in Korea :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2P9Bgc04mMo&feature=channel_page
but that video is NOT what I'd show a hagwon boss, I'd show them my professional work
http://www.youtube.com/Briangarton2009
and then tell them I can make any movie they want, suggest the ways it could help recruiting teachers - like joe schmoe is trying to decide between one school in korea they've never heard of, or another, and they see this one with succinct little podcasts detailing personalities, students, classes or whatever about the school, and the videos are dated and regularly added every week or 2, then I'd be a lot more willing to sign with a school, especially if I'm a first time teacher who needs to see a familiar environment to make a decision...
anyway, you asked, that's my latest pipe dream! |
