Dear lizzie,
Not while I was shopping - but a good number of my students gave me Qurans and Islamic literature.
Some teachers were irritated or offended when this would happen, but I always thought it was flattering. They cared enough about me that they wanted to save me from going to hell (well, they didn't realize just what a lost cause that was.)

How coincidental - I also have the very items you mentioned. The "Closed for Prayer" red and white triangle hangs on my home office doorknob, but then, my office is open 24/7. I never close.

Members of Khobar�s Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice were the victims of an attack by two Saudi females, Asharq Al-Awsat can reveal.
According to the head of the commission in Khobar, two girls pepper sprayed members of the commission after they had tried to offer them advice.
Head of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in the Eastern province Dr. Mohamed bin Marshood al-Marshood, told Asharq Al Awsat that two of the Commission�s employees were verbally insulted and attacked by two inappropriately-dressed females, in the old market in Prince Bandar street, an area usually crowded with shoppers during the month of Ramadan.
According to Dr. Al-Marshood, the two commission members approached the girls in order to �politely� advise and guide them regarding their inappropriate clothing.
Consequently, the two girls started verbally abusing the commission members, which then lead to one of the girls pepper-spraying them in the face as the other girl filmed the incident on her mobile phone, while continuing to hurl insults at them.
The Eastern Province�s head of the commission also revealed that with the help of the police his two employees were able to control the situation.
The two females were then escorted to the police station where they apologized for the attack, were cautioned and then released."

I wouldn't take any chances on bringing the pepper spray. Anything that can be interpreted as a "weapon" could get you into serious trouble. Bringing in a bible or a sausage or two would get those items confiscated (with a dramatic display of disgust) but bringing in a "weapon" could land you in jail.

Yes, there are the "dawa" (missionary) guys who have booths near the entrance to supermarkets. I found them to be very polite and I thought they showed extraordinary restraint in their interactions with non-Muslims. They never said a word to me about my uncovered hair!

I agree - I guess I should have made it clear I was being facetious about the spray's coming in handy.
But it does raise the question: Did the ladies bring it into the Kingdom or buy it there?

Hey Lizzie my mom gave me a Bible mp3 player. I actually downloaded it onto my laptop and that comforts me but even if I didn't do that I would have that mp3 player which looks like a memory stick so maybe you could get one of those? And there is, like others stated, the internet which has a plethora of websites for Christians and where you can catch some televised sermons/teachings from the more popular people such as Joyce Myers and Joel Osteen. That may give your grandma some peace as it does my mom. Very Happy

Dear Lizzie,
You'll probably find that a lot of non-Islamic religious sites (and even some Islamic ones) are blocked in the Kingdom.
However, if you're fairly computer-literate (or know someone else who is), you can overcome the censorship with not too much trouble most of the time.
