Yes, 30+ is correct, but 50+ is more precise! (It is either 52, 53, 55, or 56)

I wish the university well, and hope that it will bring about a sea of change in the whole country as the king hopes.

My prediction for a few years now has been that the 6 or so "economic cities" being constructed all over the country will bring about much needed change in the country. These artificial cities are being made like proper cities, with actual zoning, parks, etc, and rumor has it, women will be allowed to drive inside these cities and hold any jobs they wish. If all this is true, the wave of liberty will spread from these cities.

Dear 007,
So Sultan's going to get bumped by the BIG C before Abdullah goes to his reward?
I'm no "Saudiologist," but I don't think Nayef's a shoo-in for the kingship.

"The King has a new committee called the Baya Committee, which is made of 34 princes who will choose the next Crown Prince if the King decides on a Crown Prince that they dont like. The Baya Committee has the right to veto the choice of Crown Prince. More importantly, if the new King becomes incompetent for physical reasons, the Baya Committee has the right to dethrone the King - an enormous change. This is to ensure that Abdullahs reform is not then derailed by someone who is incompetent. I think that the 34 will include some of the most senior Princes in the Kingdom and also a large number of second generation princes who would perhaps think to bring a younger man into power. We dont know how this is going to happen but at least it is more of a procedure now which may ease the transition."

John

Well, if you believe so, then prepare your application form for an artificial Magic Kingdom citizenship! Laughing

Well, as a Saudilogist, I think the power of Bayaa committee is limited and superficial, it is the King who appointed them, and it is the King who can dethrone or fire them!
I wonder who kiss the hand and shoulder of the other, the KIng or the Baaya members? Laughing

Well... in the past, the family has shown itself able to dethrone a King who couldn't handle the job. But who are we to guess where the power lies in that "secret society." It's never been a terribly transparent crowd, and the inevitability of running out of Abdul'Aziz's sons means that it will be getting much more... um... interesting... as it moves to the next generation.
