I remember a popular quote from another forum;
Question "What's more interesting, watching paint dry or watching Japanese TV?"
Answer "Watching paint dry wins hands down everytime!"
Sorry, couldn't resist . |

I was watching that... kinda. It just happened to be right after the show with celebraties and cute animals. Now there's a show with celebraties and brain teasers. They are doing some clapping exercise right now.
I'm pretty sure that the kids upstairs are watching the same thing from the thumping. |

What got me was the saturation coverage of the Noriko Sakai story. Even with only a couple of days left to the election it was still getting top billing; you could have been forgiven for not knowing there was an election on.
A couple of my students claim an LDP conspiracy but I think it was just par for the course.
I read somewhere (sorry no link) that, on average, TV in this country is aimed at someone with the IQ of a 14/15 year old.
Daytime TV in the UK is not much better in my opinion. |

Damn, you're still using an old nag to pull your cart? You should be more eco-friendly and use an electric one !
Yes, the way issues play out on the news is odd at best. I still think a lot of TV here is very low budget and low quality. Often many of the same formulas are used because they don't seem to have many novel ideas. |

What gets me most is that you can't watch anything without that little picture in the corner showing one of the douche bag guests' reaction. Yesterday I was watching a pretty interesting (but admittedly cheap) show about the 50 most dangerous animals. It was somewhat offputting watching cool footage of tigers and snakes while some dumb model or comedian was umming and ahhing in the top corner.
It's almost as if the program itself isn't the important bit, but what the unimportant celebrities think about it. I mean, who really cares what they think except for lonely singles in their one-room apartments who dream of actually being important enough to appear on these shows? |

C'est vrai!
That's so true! I wonder if it si a way for people to know how to react. If their just watching the TV and no one is going, "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhh!" then maybe people at home don't go "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhh!"
Sometimes I also think that the celebrities are trying tooo hard to look excited or happy to be eating plain noodles or surprised or laughing tooooo much! |

| I actually find myself watching the little box sometimes just to see if they switch to someone who's not paying attention, like checking their mobile phone or something. THAT would be funny. |

yes, that little box gets me too
can't stand it,
unnecessary!
to me the balance in TV viewing is so unbalanced
there are far too many comedy (owarai) where every one has to laugh every 10 seconds no matter how boring .
Also a little too many food programs but I can stomach them better (LOL couldn't resist that!) |

What about music shows? At least Japan's MTV actually plays music videos, unlike here anymore. Just a bunch of unnecessary Reality Shows, which keeps Talk Soup (The Soup) in business. |

Mind you though British TV is pretty bad these says as well. Lots of shos have always had canned laughter but many programs now also look like they have come straight fom Japanese TV some of it has. Do you know that "hole in the wall" show that is Japanese! There are also so many reality TV shows that it is really boring I mean doesn't anyone have a life? |

| I hated English TV as well, but I think I'd rather sit through Eastenders than some of these Japanese shows. At least it has a semblance of a plot. |
