What if one deigns to leave the job in the KSA voluntarily though? Is there a requirement for the employer to pay the flight out, or is that on the (former) FT....presumably the 3 months salary is more than adequate to furnish one with a flight ticket? |
It depends on the contract and visa type. If you're on a biz visit visa, you can simply leave at any time prior to the end of your written agreement with your sponsor. However, you'll be responsible for your return flight. |

Thanks for the reply. I would imagine for the other types of visa, work visit, iqama, an agreement must be reached mutually? |

KSA for 12,000/month-wtf? Who is that desperate? Truly awful money for that isolation unless you are a bearded 1 and are there for religious reasons.
Saudi and Kuwait are the 2 most boring places on the planet. |

Agreed. For direct hire much too low. |

It would likely be written into the employment contract. Otherwise, it's per the employer's rules and not through "mutual agreement." BTW, an employment/work visa is valid for 90 days and qualifies the holder for an iqama/muqeem. In other words, the new employee arrives on a proper work visa and within 90 days, the visa is replaced with a resident ID card.

I doubt that was a direct-hire position; the OP mentioned Skyline, a third-party recruiter, as well as a 30-day holiday, which is common of benefits with private contracting companies and not direct-hire situations. Regardless, this resurrected thread is from 2009, and the subject Islamic university doesn't appear to presently have the typical English prep year program. Plus, I suspect teachers of all subject areas also need to be fluent in Arabic and be Muslim. |

You don't need to be Muslim or an Arabic speaker at that University. I know a few people there who have actually had some good things to say about it (well, comparatively speaking).
However, the US Embassy used to refer to it as a no-go area and it was known in the past (not sure if it is still the case) as a hotbed of fundamentalism.

EdEx was the first agency to send native speakers (both Muslim and non-Muslim) there in February 2010.
Everyone was treated very well in the first year: the direct hires were, in the main, very kind, helpful and friendly.
It's a huge place and if linguistics is your passion, try to get a position in the Language and Translation Department. |

Plenty of Westerners, neither bearded nor Muslim, have taken up employment in KSA for 12k sr. Heck, they have even come for QEHCs paltry 8.5/9k sr monthly salary.
Open up your mind. You are not the only native English speaker and everyone is different. |

Agree on the first part, there will be something in the contract to cover this, and as you say, if not, it will be per the employer's rules.
About the second part, I was under the impression the "work visit visa" was a work visa, but for 6 months? What differs the work visit visa from a biz visa, and also from the "iqama". Just a bit confused on this, no harm meant!!! |
