Dear elamericano,
And that would be . . . ?
Will this do?

Function: noun
Date: 1960
chiefly British : a person who advances through a meritocratic system

Is it possible that we are now proving what a disagreeable breed we are?

Dear Deicide,
Too much introspection on your part, my boy.
Dear Justin,
Well, one of the disadvantages of the Net is that verbal engagement is the only recourse. So, the situation isn't quite relevant.
Regards,
John

| As long as it shows that the dictionary does not say what you said it says, it will do just fine. |

Dear elamericano,
"meritocrats: A group of leaders or officeholders selected on the basis of individual ability or achievement."
"a person who advances through a meritocratic system."
Alas, such is not the case.

John |

Dear Deicide,
Not compared to me, sonny. It's all relative.

You'll find that the above is not present in any dictionary. |

Dear elamericano,
Would you please point out the differences between these to me:
meritocrat: a leader or officeholder selected on the basis of individual ability or achievement
meritocrat: a person who advances through a meritocratic system.
Thanks,
John |

| One of them is in the dictionary and one of them isn't. |

Dear elamericano,
Ah, of course. Silly of me not to spot that. Glad it had nothing to do with the actual meaning, though.
