Hey Rossiter Joe! Cow High, class of 92, grew up basically in Sahtlam, by Skutz Falls/Stoltz Pool.... lovely foresty area. I kind of miss the greenery of my youth, esp. here in bone dry Central Anatolia...

Hey, we could form an alternative to the Cape Breton Canuck club (they outnumber us, but hey, with 2 members Vancouver Island might fare all right..)

Hi Yaramaz

I was in your locale over the Bayram, stayed in Urgurp at the Club, that place has changed a lot since 95, it still blows me away and I have to go back in the summer for a Mount Numret tour, what's it like in Cappadocia? There is so much to see in this country that is a wonder I don't know if I ever will get to see the wall of China .

Hi Richard!

How was Urgup during the bayram? I left and went to London because last year I had a hard time dealing with all the blood and guts associated with the sacrifice. The caravansaray here in Kayseri is still puddled with blood and entrails and skins... yuk. I WAS just in Urgup on Saturday night though--- they have some of the best nightclubs in Turkey (I think). Dancing till dawn in an old Ottoman stone house amongst the fairy chimneys surely rates among the wonders of the world, esp when accompanied by flagons of local wine and shimmying women and bird-flapping dancing men...
Also wonders around here... the Ilhara valley, with the hundreds of churches carved into the cliff faces, Mt Nemrut, Rose Valley (rose coloured rock, stunning at sundown), many parts of Istanbul... I need more holidays to see them all. I havent travelled nearly as much as I'd like to...

Hi Yaramaz

I was expecting to see the mess that comes with the Bayram, however, there was little evidence of it but we did see a village where they were using cows instead of sheep;I remember eating an awful lot of meat those few days . Urgup was really great ,so many changes since our last visit and the Mayor ,one Bekir Odemis has really dragged the place kicking and screaming into the 21st century .
I felt more at ease in the place this time round and we had more time to explore, our old friend Yilmaz who normally works in Turunc showed us the best places tp go .We didnt bother with the tour coach that brought us here ,that was a nightmare journey ,perhaps I,ll start another thread on that one .

The wonders I have are a little smaller in size but are just as important to me.

1. Waking up on a Sunny morning with the sun shining it's pretty face into my room saying 'good morning'.
2. The children's faces when they competed a hard computer game.
3. Learning achient languages
4. Philosophy
5. Breathing in the morning and say to oneself, "What can I do to the world today?"

Just some thoughts...

While touring through western Canada, I took the train from Edmonton to Vancouver through the Rockies. Luckily, we stopped in Jasper for 45 minutes, so I got a better chance to take it all in.

The top of Mount Fuji at sunrise will always be a majestic memory.

Driving on the west coast of Ireland at sundown. The sun shone on the fields, and the green was so brilliant it was almost blinding.

While in Hua Hin in 2001 I went for a late night swim. When the water was splashed, there were neon green plankton that lit up. It made for a really beautiful light show.
