Just wanted to say thanks for all the info. notamiss has volunteered to be my tour guide for a couple hours! thanks so much. I-ll see you in a couple of days.
And yep, I have been around. Lived in 7 countries, visited heaps more. Never been robbed. What would they get off me? Salvation army clothes?! Please. My whole outfit is probably worth 5 bucks. |

Due to the timing of my flights, I had the opportunity to sleep at the airport a number of times. Not enough time to bother getting a hotel room, but too long to stay awake. I parked myself in a visible spot, laid on top of my backpack, made sure my valuables were well hidden under my clothes, and drifted off. I never sleep well under those situations, mostly because it's so uncomfortable, but I've never felt unsafe doing so. I've slept in many airports and bus stations around the world and never had a problem. I don't really recommend this option, but my point is that usually it will be safe if you take sensible precautions. |

Yep, I've been told that by a couple people.

I always find the airport hotel, marriot, etc, and camp out right next to it. Spent a fun 16 hours in a Canadian airport that way. |

Anyone who needs to stay over in any airport will want to know about this website: http://sleepinginairports.com/. It has user reviews of airports all over the world from the point of view of staying overnight. Lots of excellent, practical information. |

I have to say that my experience was great. I got in around 630, was out of the airport around 730. We took the subway. it was safe, clean. absolutely wonderful.
We went to the palacio nacional and museum, the zocolo, and the saw a couple of other things.
Had no problems, it was MUCH safer than Lima. And I-d love to go back. |

We had a great time and it was wonderful for me and another erstwhile member of this forum to meet Naturegirl in person. We managed to complete the itinerary I had proposed above on page 1 in the time available, although the Templo Mayor tour had to be conducted practically at a jogging pace. Still worth it! |

Sounds a lot more like the Mexico I know. Glad you had a good time.
Notamiss, looks like you've got the makings of a new career there! |

Despite the renovations some years back, Downtown is ruined by police on every corner hysterically blowing whistles for no apparent reason. What the **** are the traffic lights for? What is the Mexican obsession with the whistle about? |

Happy someone else took note of that as well.
Might have something to do with people's failure to respect the traffic lights and whatnot, or a heck of a lotta folks are color blind in Chilangolandia
How about those speed-bumps? Could be one of the reasons I've never seen a lowrider cruising around the DF |
