| Sounds good, LA. Please though try to add a section for good schools. It won't take up much space. |

Yep, some of the larger schools look worse when they could
be better.
I think AES had about 50 teachers in Dalian alone
when I was with them and they've been in business for
several years (since about 1996) in Dalian and mostly
after 2000 elsewhere. There are 20 foreign teachers
in Jinan. And Xi'an seems about the same based on
what their website says.
Who knows what the turnaround is, but they seem to
have around 100 teaching positions to fill at any time.
The grand total of teachers who have passed through AES
in Dalian must be greater than 300 and could be several
times that. I don't know for sure.
And who knows how many of those people post on this
forum...
I've thought about this survey problem and don't really
have a good solution, though.
There is some pretty powerful customer survey software
out there, but you somehow need to get enough teachers
involved to make it matter. You'd probably need dozens
of teachers per school to get anything significant.
So we're probably stuck with anecdotal evidence for a
while. |

Cuidado los "management opportunities". This just lets them get a crack at any orifices they didn't *beep* the first time around...
Stick with the Unis...

I get the impression that AES has done wonders in getting better managers in. The ones I have met in Jinan, Shenyang, Dandong and Changchun over the last year (temporarily working with the US Embassy in SY) have been China enthusiasts who enjoy their time here, know a lot about modern teaching practice and have happy and keen teachers. I met a couple of the former managers in Changchun and Dalian in 2002 and wasn't impressed - I guess in those days (and even more before so) it was harder to promote good people - the number of crackpots around in the late 90s was simply stunning. |

| With the recent news of a teacher being screwed in Dalian (by his boss), thought this could use a bump. |

| With time, I've come to agree with the original poster's opinion. The language mills all have something against them. If we were to update this thread every time a FT got screwed over in DL, it would be the longest thread on Dave's. Perhaps the shortest thread would be, "Which schools in DL aren't dodgy?" |
