| Check the vacation time. I once applied. It was under 35 days per year sometimes including public holiday periods. And Aramco and its subcontractors work all day. I believe BAe gets you home by 1400 at the latest. Few subcontracted efl teachers can get you full Aramco status. |

Agghhh sorry to hear about that Mr Braveheart but I doubt our compatriot Mr GB will be easing your financial woes in the near future.
Nice to hear a low down on the OIL/Military gigs though, it usually boils down to time versus money and if you can get enough money to finance the time then it's sweet as a nut if not then life can be as rough as a badgers arse ....as me dear old dad used to say.
I remain, Sir

Dear Shake and Bake,
Thank you for that, but do try to keep up.
I KNOW BAE Systems is a military job and not an oil job. I worked at BAE Systems for two years, and after about a week even the slowest of us would see the difference.
Sharter and I were comparing salaries.
. |
Oh REALLY? For your information, since you can't read very well, there are only TWO salaries mentioned here: $75K (Kipling), then $74K (me) and then you mentioned $74K.
$74K is MY reference and is unrelated to BAE. How would I know you're talking about some other job when you mention the same exact salary? Do try to keep up. |

Apparently, this is Aramco. They are recruiting here through Expat Recruitment. It all looks legit. They are being very cagey on the finer points--like how many contact hours, locations etc.
Anyway, what interests me is that they want Saudi experienced people, but the interviews are being held in Europe at inconvenient times. They also describe the interviews as "interview workshops". Hmm. If anyone can shine any light on Expat Recruitment, and/or this process, we'd love to hear from you |

Would $75K still be a good salary even if you had to pay for your accommodation and child's schooling? It works out at over 23000 SAR a month, which is not bad. Would accommodation + schooling for one child seriously put a dent in those figures

|
|
A friend who applied for this job tells me the employer is The HAK Group - Saudi Aramco.
The terms on offer are standard, it seems. Apart from the "up to"--don't forget--75K salary, there is little special on offer here. And 25 contact hours? That's 5 too many.
The question arises, what are The HAK Group like as employers? What is working on this gig like? I don't know, but it kind of sounds like a treadmill...On the other hand, if the management are decent...? Anyone working there under The HAK Group who can share some information with us? Much appreciated. |

Eh? "Interview workshops"? Sounds bizarre. Either it's the contemporary trend for labelling everything as a 'workshop' so as to sound all 'interactive' and the like, or it's one of those 'group interviews' where you are observed in groups to see how well you get on with other people -or to use that other trendy phrase, to see if you are a 'team player'.
Sinister. |

| My friend has since been re-assured that the interview process is "straightforward"--about 45 mins. But seems you're interviewed by more than one person. They might be perfectly reasonable people...or...? |

A team player interactive kinda workshop interview is what I got from KFUPM and a very pleasant experience it was......nice guys one and all (still sort of regret I never took it up)
but the original question still remains
Is 75k worth it?? and by the way 25 hours at the chalk face is NOT the business....quality not quantity is the name of the game as everyone surely knows
Mr K etc ad infinitum .......................
yes it's late and it's Himavant after a very convivial Friday night
and time for.....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Speaking of Ladies, I don't think women are hired to be ESL teachers at BAE or Aramco as the vast majority of the students are men...
As for Libya, I have applied several times for a position there and every single time they have said they cannot hire Americans. I also doubt that they could hire a female because the students are mostly lonely camp type males who would probably just give us a real hard time. Are there any females (who have worked on one of the oil gigs there) who care to disagree with me?
All of the well-paid positions in the Middle East are open to males ONLY! By well-paid I'm talking $75k a year or above. |

| With the Hak/Expat Teaching thing it is not stated if they allow married status. I would hazard a guess that it is single status. If they do allow married folks then housing and schooling would add hugely to your costs. |

I have heard that QP in Qatar hires or has hired women. But after reading about that place here, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
And remember... that is a max of 75000 and your offer could be half that. And the only benefits paid are medical and flights. (no housing or furniture allowance or or or)

I'm not 100% sure but I do think that jobs teaching English on oil rigs in Libya are almost always men only, for reasons which, I suppose, are obvious.
More generally speaking, high-paying ESL positions in the military or oil sectors tend to be open only to men. The best a woman can hope for is a good university position, and she would be doing very well to earn more than about SR15000 a month plus benefits. |
