That would depend on how much the university pays you. Assuming you are paid 6k a month at a university and can work 10 extra hours a week at a training center, at least 10k.

I once worked at a training center in Shanghai. There were 2 part-time teachers. 1 guy worked T,W, & Th. nights (6-9pm), the other guy worked Sat. & Sun. (5 hours each day). 150 rmb per hour x 10 = 1500 a week x 4 = 6k + 6k = 12k with a free university apartment!

Personally, I think the 9 hours during the week is best because you would still have the weekends off, but most likely a training center would rather have the part-time teachers work on the weekends when it is busier.

After awhile the weekend guy quit because he had no time off! 7 days a week would drain anyone. There is more to life than money JZ!!

Keep in mind that part-time training center work or even private students is "risky". You could lose the hours in a second. If the center is slow they will let you go. (It happened to my friend in Shanghai). If the private student becomes busy with work, goes on vacation or simply doesn't like you anymore...= no money for you.

Keep in mind also that most universities are located outside the city = perhaps 1+ hour commute to the city where the training center is located. That is another reason the guy mentioned above quit. He was leaving his university in the Songjiang area of Shanghai at 7am or so to get to the center at 9am. By the time he got home it was 8pm, fall asleep and then wake up and do it again on Sunday.

The weekday part-time guy was lucky because his university was in town. So, ideally you work at a university near downtown.

I did not say that there is not more to life than money. I guess ideally which may not come with your first job, that you work at a university that you only work three or four days a week. Then even if you work Saturday and Sunday you only work five days a week.

Of course the best set up is if you can work 6PM to 9PM during the week and have weekends off. I don't know how difficult that is or not?

Any advice?

I currently work four days a week in Taiwan; Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. Basically I work during the busy times for classes in Taiwan and have the rest of the time free.

How difficult is it to get a university job near Shangahi with only a B.A.? I have been teaching English abroad for almost five years.
