US$10 an hour ?
No way could I do that 35 hours a week.
Plus, I bet you will still be asked to babysit a few stray kids during that
2 1/2 hour lunch break. So, no break at all. |

Its the contracted hours that would put me off, I quite fancy trying kindy work in honesty. I wouldnt want to work full days though. I can do that working in EFL back in the UK, and part of the attraction here in China is I can work a maximum of 3 hours a day and earn more than enough to enjoy a fairly good standard of living.
A 35 hour working week is fairly huge for teaching IMO. I do intend moving to another country, probably in the EU, for my next job, and even the places that are classed as 'slave drivers' tend to only contract you to work 22-25 hours a week. 35 is massive....and for that, I would want a massive salary package...not just a good one. 3 hours lunch break is pretty standard in China by the way.
10,000/151 contract hours per month=66 RMB per hour. Not a great hourly rate, not the worst either...bottom line for me really is I wouldnt want to work so many contracted hours ... not in China where there are 101 things I want to do in my free time. China also doesnt really offer so much in terms of professional development (most jobs anyway) so there has to be something else to make it attractive. For me, that happens to be few working hours. |
yeah some good points from you and everyone.. when you just think you got a good'un it gets decimated... suppose thats why I use this forum.. good sensible advice! |

| Yes, talk to the other teachers doing 35 a week. If they are honest, they will tell you its way too much. Especially kindergarten. I would NEVER in a million years do this! Young chinese children are very spoiled as you should have noticed in the way adults treat them on the street and in restaurants, etc. I have done 25 classes a week of adults in small classes and its too much too. |
