Staffing firms make a lot of money off teachers - about 20-30k baht per month per teacher - but they're still a good resource for people until they get in the system and understand how to get jobs on their own

Yes, recruiting agencies (in Thailand) make a lot of money, but its not really off teachers. It kind of bugs me when people say this because IF it were true then there would be plenty of 50,000 baht/month jobs being offered by schools that don't use agencies. We all know that doesn't happen. Schools that hire on thier own MAY have slightly higher salaries, but not by that much. It just ends up being some admin or senior staff at the school who gets to profit rather than the agency.

BECAUSE

In most situations, the money to pay for foreign teachers comes from the parents and sometimes from government grants. It should really be the parents that are pissed off.

In many cases involveing agencies, there is kick-back money being given to the directors and senior staff in the form of cash and/or incentives in return for using the agency. We are not in Kansas anymore.

Education is a business in Thailand.

Agencies are a necessary evil to help new teachers get their feet wet.
