| I was quoted 700,000 to go from the airport to Binh Thanh district the other day. I laughed in his face. Nothing's changed. The legitimate taxis still aren't allowed to pick you up, even when you specifically walk over to them as they drop people off. I just walked out of the airport and flagged one once outside. The total price with the meter running? 120,000. |

EVERY TIME I fly down South to Tan Son Nhat, I ALWAYS look for the bloke in the green shirt and the clipboard walking around....OFFICIAL Mailinh Taxi representative ("OFFICIAL" because of Mailinh's reputation for fair dealings has been exploited by copy-scam-artists like "M-Taxi" and others using VERY similar names and basically thee same logo and colours)!
Yeah, I have to wait a fair bit longer until a real Mailinh taxi finally pulls up to the taxi stand (and there's about usually two or three groups ahead of me INSISTING on a Mailinh), but it IS worth the wait to avoid the scam!!! |

| The domestic terminal in Saigon is a mess. The short walk, over and up to the international arrivals on the elevated concourse, is well worth it for the orderly line of real taxis and team of ushers, who give you a slip with the taxi number to keep the driver honest. |

HANOI: Police have arrested a taxi driver a week after he overcharged by 40 times two Singaporean delegates to the 80th Interpol General Assembly meeting in Hanoi, Vietnam.

The driver works for the Phu Gia taxi company,...
...the victims ...were forced to pay 6 million dong (S$600) for a ride of only 10km. The normal fare should have been only 150,000 dong.
...a number of taxi operators have condemned the driver's act, which they say negatively affected Vietnam's national image, and demanded an inspection into the Phu Gia taxi company. |

Should be revised properly.....
-FROM:
"Hanoi Transportation Association chairman Bui Danh Lien said a number of taxi operators have condemned the driver's act, which they say negatively affected Vietnam's national image, and demanded an inspection into the Phu Gia taxi company."
-TO:
"A number of taxi drivers and operators have condemned the driver's actions, stating that it takes a total ass clown of a taxi driver to get arrested by the Canh Sat in H Nội! Drivers around quận Hon Kiếm, however, feel that this will lead to greater police and government scrutiny, which then will have things like fast-running meters investigated in greater detail, will increase the bribes to various law enforcement and regulatory agencies to a higher amount than what is currently being paid, and will lead to fewer tourists returning to Viet Nam for a second holiday......which is fine with the drivers, as we just hit them once, and will never see them again! God forbid they are stupid enough to actually COME BACK here......" |

Well, the guy was unlucky enough to rip off " two Singaporean delegates to the 80th Interpol General Assembly meeting".
I think that's the main reason that he was arrested. Otherwise, it probably wouldn't have been such a big deal. |
