Not entirely true. CELTA and similar TEFL certificates are pretty much meaningless if one wants to teach children in the government schools in anglophone countries like the United States. You really need to get government teacher certification. Now where something like a CELTA might be useful is if you hope to teach adults in a private language school (though, for the record, the big local organization where I live that does ESL courses wants at least a graduate certificate in adult education, though something like CELTA would be in addition to that). |
