| Interesting. Does that mean that 'had got' isn't in the past either? |

I assume the guy means 'have gotten' is his PP. '...... I wouldn't offer you work.... The original guy who stated it |

Ha! You wouldn't be the first, sweetie! And if you really are in a position to offer work, my guess is you have an education degree. Your ignorance of basic grammar is typical of your ilk, and you join Cutting Edge in dragging down the profession.

Not sure I can parse this sentence. Perhaps my knowledge of grammar isn't as advanced as yours. Care to enlighten us as to what you are trying to say? |

I was not certain it was indeed a typo. I'm still not convinced. To drop a main verb completely is more than a typo to me. To do so in a sentence where you mock another poster's grammatical knowledge and defame a perfectly good course book is hilariously much more so.
So, come on then. What's the problem with Cutting Edge referring to 'have got' as present simple? Contextually, it is presented in its present simple use, and not its semi-modal use.
I don't see your point. Care to share? |

Yes, that is a typical example of a real typo - I just included to see if you'd spot it.
'Tell me, do you troll often? For you've got to be a troll'. This is an example of a non-present simple use of 'have got'. Is that what you are driving at? |

| What? From a troll who makes all sorts of unfounded claims about grammar and course books? Hmmm... I doubt I'd gain anything from that arrangement, so no thanks. However, I'm sure there are plenty hapless students out there who won't know the difference. You'd be better off slinging your hook in their direction, mate. |

Mate? Ha! Sounds like I've been talking to the Geico gecko. Cheerio!
Ok. One free lesson. You may have to cross the pond to see this in action, but the simple present is just "have." No "got," no "gotten." |
