(The following comments will seem to be directed at the OP but, really, just some general observations based on reading these forums for several years now)
When someone asks is 5000 enough and I have debt back home but I don't want to work many hours, then I have to say . . . wha'???
There are jobs that will pay you more money, but they may not be so-called cushy university jobs that give you 3-4 months of holiday time (paid or not paid - - up to your savvy contract negotiations). I work about 35 hours a week and get lots of paid holiday time every year and all the bonuses and perks that many schools have to offer. I teach 19 40-minute periods within those 35 hours. I take home close to 3X the typical university salary so I'm able to save, pay bills, and have a good time during my off hours.
So I think newcomers have to make a decision: Lots of free time and low working hours for a "typical" Chinese-offered FT salary or put in some "normal" working hours but still have plenty of downtime to enjoy your life and enjoy the money you are bringing in. Everyone has their own take on this, so asking advice about it from forum members is fine, but you'll get a wide range of responses. |
