wow that sounds reprehensible. I thought I was anticiapting most contingency situations but I hadn't considered that.

I'd give it a pass and suggest a recon trip where you visit the areas you're interested in, live there for some time, meet people and teachers in the schools, and get a feel for the place, and so forth.

To do that would require a tourist visa and your purpose is genuine touring and some job hunting thrown in -- nothing about the visa requirement that says you can't look for work, you just can't actually work on a L visa. This would also apply to other countries that say 'employment prohibited' on their tourist visas.

It would require some cash and time investment to do this, but surely it would be worth it. I'm not really thrilled about this trend with recruiters offering contracts without an interview, or similarly, FTs who pick some Tier II place in interior China they've never been to before, sign up blindly, and get on board a plane. Not to say you're guilty of this, but I think so many of the problems could be avoided if FTs would simply show up and tour the area first before applying for the job.

In a perfect world it would be best to physically check out a place. Unfortunately its not that feasible for most people as it requires both time and money. Which sad to say is often in short supply. Thats why these types of forums are quite useful.
