was what the sec of state was talking about. Really, it was about the natives. My comment was that I personally feel more free here. With reference to business, it should be pretty obvious that the relative numbers of small businesses here is much higher than the U.S. Walking thru the city, down any street, how many businesses do you see as you walk, including residential areas? Plus, how many people are independently carrying on some business even without a roof over their heads? Compare that to the states, where vast areas of residential neighborhoods are housing only. The ratio has to be far higher here, which tells me that in some ways, this is a more open capitalistic system than ours. We can compare various faults of both, which we both have, and we can argue about which is worse. But I do think the case can be made that for the VN people, there are more options to have a viable business (freedom to choose ones life) here than there are for our people in the U.S.
If we are talking about the freedom to choose between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama in the primaries, or a great choice like Gore and Bush a couple of cycles ago, yeah, they don't have that wonderful opportunity. But, then again, neither do we, only 15 states or so are truly up for grabs, by the time they feed you the dog food, your choice might as well be Godzilla or Megatron. Alpo or Kennel Ration. |
