Dear SEndrigo
No time to reply right now but when I come back I think that you will find that your last post was unwise.
I seem to remember you already having to reregister at least once under a different name after being unable to stand the attention attracted by your continued trolling.
And that was before I arrived.
Do try to enjoy the oh so short time that any of us have on this gloriously spinning orb. Little boy.

Hi stillnosheep,
What you are doing is admirable, but it's also pointless for you to stand up for the Catalan, Basque, etc people, most of whom could really care less what some bloke from the UK thinks about their culture and internal struggles.
You'd be a much better source to talk about Wales and the UK....on the Spanish side of things you have a lot to learn, before you can claim to understand their country's situation.
But I suppose we are not going to agree with each other, and of course, you are entitled to your own opinion.....even so, it's always good to get some activity here on the Spain board. |

SENDRIGO about your comment:
"Yes that's right, I don't think American teachers get paid less than British teachers, but as Mouse has pointed out, if the school decides to not pay them, they have no legal recourse. The school can also sack them whenever they please, without worrying about anything. "
This is the way it should be but in reality it does not work like that....if my school decided to fire me there is nothing I can do and if they do not pay me there is nothing I can do. The legal costs of reporting them and the time ( years!) I would have to wait would not be worth my while. Remember all the teachers that worked in WSI, Opening etc and did not get paid ( and they will not in the future). So I keep wondering what advantages do I have by being European. In most countries all the advantages in Spain none apart from medical insurance. |

Medical insurance is a pretty big benefit. Also keep in mind that many employers simply prefer to hire EU citizens - so that's another benefit. Though I agree that holding an EU passport isn't really a huge bonus if you're looking for work in Spain. |

Even if it would be hassle to resort to legal action, the fact that you can is arguably a deterrent to those schools who might (perish the thought) not be completely above-board with there staff. |

That's a great point you bring up...and you're absolutely right that if you decided to take the school to court, it would be very difficult if not impossible to get your money back.
Though as Mouse mentioned, the very fact that you are able to access the legal system and that the laws (some laws, at least) work in your favour, might act as a deterrent.
As for the WSI and Opening, etc fiasco....it's very unfortunate, I know some teachers who are still waiting to get paid....though this is about as likely as Leeds winning the Premiership next year (i.e. not very likely! LOL) |

I doubt it, any time you mention laws and legal system to Spanish people they just laugh. They know very well how it works. The main advantage for me about being legal is having medical services. Strange as it may seem in such a chaotic country they are excellent. I have used them a few times and have been very impressed. |

Hiyas,
Something a little unexpected has come up for me lately, and makes me think about dental services in Spain. Is this covered under the socialised healthcare? Its not in Oz, and definitely not here in Mexico..
Also, what about optometrists?
Yours in toothache,
Lozwich. |
