Yup, and JET also operates workwise on an April-March basis

Oops actually I meant to say that JET contracts are from late July/early August to the following year's late July/early August. But the Japanese school year is of course still from each April to the following March. So a JET will do the last half of one academic year and the first half of the following at whatever school(s)...not that the Japanese teachers and students seem to mind (or notice!) too much!

The following thread by the way should give you a reasonable idea of what the JET application process entails, should you decide to go through with it:

But when I applied in 2006 and attempted to apply in 2008, the application forms for UK JET were not normally avaliable until Sept/Oct and the deadline was the last Friday in November. I'm pretty sure that US JET had a pretty similar deadline.

So the OP hasn't missed the deadline for the 2011 departure, yet.

Also wondering whether the OP actually understands the difference between the ALT positions on offer with JET vs all the other eikawa schools the named. They seem to talk about them as though they are similar in some way, and the fact they asked whether JETs teach adults suggests that they don't.

Thanks for providing clearer and more up-to-date info, Sek. And best thing still for mt3 would be to peruse the JET promotional stuff and application materials first-hand so that the application dates especially, and (any remaining) differences between JET and eikaiwa, become absolutely clear. But I wasn't too busy recently and therefore didn't mind "chipping in" to this thread, and I generally like to try to welcome people a bit! Cool Smile

Thanks for the information I greatly appreciate everyones help.

I have a quick question as I happily read your posting. Correct me if I do not understand correctly, but is the deadline for 2011 departure still available for application? & If applying now when would the 2011 departure be?

Thank you for all your help I truly do appreciate it Very Happy

So one can pretty much safely assume that for the JET 2011 programme, the application process begins in late September this year (keep checking their website for exactly when application materials become available!) and ends in late November - a window of two months, which should give you plenty of time then in which to complete the application, mt3. [Departure if successful/accepted would be sometime in mid-2011 (roughly late July-early Aug)]. The rest is obviously down to you. Good luck! (And apologies for misremembering the rough deadlines, back on page 1 of this thread - but a quick bit of Googling soon sorted that out eh! Wink ).
