I just had a peek on a couple of the boards that specialize in Thailand and the only crap jobs at 30k were a few out of the way government schools, a few on the beaches (where they can get teachers for next to nothing anyway) and some crap language academies and dispatch services (using folks doing 90 day visa runs)..
Anyone with more than 2 baht to rub together and the wherewithal to look and can manage to keep their head out of the bottle long enough to do an interview can easily find jobs in the 40-45k range and there are enough subject teachers positions out there (if you have some qualifications other than a CELTA from the beach or KoSan Road) that pay in the 50-60k range + benefits. |
45K in BKK is poverty level |
It might be, but those jobs are all over the place, take little more than a BA and take little more than a pulse (and show up sober) to get hired. No effort required.
Toss in a couple afternoon classes or an after school class a couple times per week (to your 20 class load) and you can add another 10k to that (or just look for a better job to start with).
Like I said , there are better jobs out there for anyone willing to put in a little time and effort to find them.
Move out of BKK a bit and all of a sudden your COL goes way down as well (B-8k gets you a small studio in BKK and a nice 3-bedroom house (utilities included) if you move 50 km away from the city. Even 45k looks pretty good when your monthly expenses drop to under 15k.
Find a nice one at 50-60k and you laugh all the way to the bank. (not to mention the 3-4 months of annual vacation that can be available). Beats the 7734 out of working for some academy for 30k and 10 days holiday.

| Do you need an M.A. to get that kind a job? Can a clean cut guy with a B.A. work his way up to 50,000 if he shows up to work sober? |

I landed 60k and only showed a BA, Associate of Arts (English) and 10 years of verified classroom experience. Show you know your stuff, be professional and it is not that hard nor is it rocket science.
It can be done with a little work and patience on your part. YES.
