| If a woman wants to take a taxi in Hail, it is advisable for her to hail one... |
Adds a new meaning to the term, "To Hail a taxi...".
You may see more from the window of a bus than when driving, as Cassava suggests, but in a car you have one overwhelming advantage: you can stop and get out when you want.
Also, I would point out that as you travel away from Hail, you will see mountains for about 50Km, but then enjoy the flatness for the remaining 600Km to Riyadh! If you are going towards Madain Saleh, you will have mountains for about 70km.
The best way to see the mountains if you are living in Hail is to hire a car and drive out the minor roads. Of course, if you are female, you would have to have a male escort, both to drive and to save you from the worst excesses of harassment. Thing is, unless you are married or otherwise related to him, having that male escort would be a criminal offence in itself, a transgression far more likely to be punished in Hail than in places such as Jeddah or Eastern Province. Either way, being a female in places such as Hail is challenging, to put it euphemistically.
The Carpathians are nice at this time of year, however. Or at any time ... |
